Bacolod starts monitoring, evaluation of SWM
Bacolod City (10 February) -- Based on the result of the Environment Compliance Audit of the Global Legal Against Climate Change, the local government of Bacolod is now starting to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Solid Waste Management program.
The result is based on four areas: provision of RA 9003 on No Segregation, No Collection Policy; provision on open burning; open dumping; and operation of Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
GLAC's audit was conducted initially focused in four barangays namely: Tangub, Brgy. 10, Brgy. 3 and Vista Allegre.
Conducting the monitoring and evaluation is the city's Solid Waste Committee.
The City Solid Waste Committee started the monitoring and evaluation with regard to the implementation of the Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2001.
Solid Waste Committee member Gilda Lluisma said that the Solid Waste Committee decided to conduct consultation, monitoring and evaluation of all barangays with regard to the implementation of this provision.
The committee was given six to eight months to comply with the provision which the GLAC has noted.
"Factors that contribute to non-compliance will be addressed, and then the committee can plan and make solutions to issues and concerns", she added. (CMO/PIA/EAD) [top]
