NSU inauguration, installation of new university president set Thursday

Naval, Biliran (February 11) -- Today, February 11, Biliranons will witness a grand celebration as they join in the inauguration of Naval State University (NSU) as a new university and the installation of Dr. Edita S. Genson as the first president of the university.

The day-long activities that highlight the celebration will be started with a holy mass at 7:30 this morning at the NSU Gymnasium with Most Reverend Msgr. Filomeno Bactol, Bishop of Naval as the main celebrant.

Arrival honors will be accorded to the distinguished guests at the NSU Administration Grounds at 8:30 this morning.

In an interview with Dr. Edita Genson, NSU President, she informed that the invited guests to the occasion include Congressman Glenn Chong of the Lone District of Biliran; Biliran Governor Rogelio Espina; Dr. Nona Ricafort, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Presiding Chairman of the NSU Board of Regents; Dr. Marlon Lopez, President of the Cebu State University (CSU); Dr. Socorro Bohol, President of the Northwest Samar State University (NSSU); Dr. Jose Bacusmo, President of the Leyte State University (LSU); Dr. Gloria Reyes, President of the Southern Leyte State University; Sr. Ma. Rita Castillo Ortiz, Regional Director of CHED-8; and Hon. Emmanuel V. Angeles, CHED Chairman.

A town parade will be held at 9:30 in the morning today around poblacion Naval and will be participated in by the officials, faculty, employees and students of the NSU led by Dr. Genson, local officials and guests.

Part of the parade is a street dancing to be performed by the NSU students in their colorful costumes.

The unveiling of the university emblem and raising of the university banner will start the afternoon activity of the occasion at 1:00 o'clock today.

Part of the unveiling ceremony is the blessing of the state-of-the-art maritime equipment and the blessing and ceremonial ribbon cutting of the NSU fašade.

The unveiling and blessing of the university emblem will be done by Congressman Glenn Chong; Hon. Emmanuel Angeles, Dr. Nona Ricafort, Governor Rogelio Espina, mayors of the 8 municipalities of Biliran province and Dr. Edita Genson.

The unveiling ceremony will be followed by the lowering of the NIT color and the hoisting of the NSU colors.

The inauguration and investiture ceremonies immediately follows.

Part of the rites is the dedicatory discourse and citation reading of Republic Act No. 9718 converting the NIT and integrating the Biliran National Agricultural College (BNAC) to NSU by Congressman Glenn Chong who is the principal sponsor of House Bill 4414.

Congressman Chong who is the guest of honor to the occasion will deliver his message.

The investiture of Dr. Edita Sabonsolin-Genson as the new university president will be officiated by the Chairman and members of NSU Board of Regents with the presence of her family.

Dr. Ma. Rita Ortiz, CHED RD for Region 8 will present Dr. Genson as the First University President of NSU while Dr. Nona Ricafort will read the scroll of appointment of Dr. Genson.

After the ceremony, Dr. Genson will deliver her inaugural speech.

To give their compliments and felicitations to the new university president are Governor Rogelio Espina of Biliran Province, Mayor Susan Parilla of the municipality of Naval, the capital town of the province and Dr. Socorro Bohol, President of the Northwest Samar State University.

A testimonial dinner and inaugural ball will be held tonight and the occasion will be capped with a fireworks display at the NSU grounds. (PIA-Biliran) [top]
