GSIS offers ongoing college scholarship to youths

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (11 February) -- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), once again urged members to help fulfill the scholastic dreams of the youths who are interested to pursue their college studies through the GSIS Scholarship Program, Public Relations and Communications Officer Gretchen Pangilinan in a press release sent to PIA.

"All GSIS members with updated premium payments can join the program," Pangilinan reported. Members will just fill up an application form that are available in all GSIS offices nationwide or it can be downloaded from their GSIS website, she added.

The scholarship grant is in line with GSIS?s desire to enhance the welfare of its members by providing educational assistance to qualified and deserving scholar-designee of GSIS winner. GSIS member may nominate a friend or a member of their family who is an incoming freshman or an enrolled college student.

Winning members will be drawn through an electronic raffle, with two hundred slots available for this year, Pangilinan disclosed in her report. Scholars will receive a tuition and miscellaneous fees of P20,000 per semester and a monthly stipend of P2,000, she said.

GSIA scholars may enroll in any school or degree of their choice, the report noted. She further said that records showed that since the program?s inception, majority of the grantees have pursued engineering, accountancy and nursing courses.

The submission of application forms is currently ongoing and is set to last on April 23, 2010, Pangilinan said. The electronic raffle draw is scheduled on the 19th of May 2010. (PIA/soleyte) [top]
