SN Aboitiz Power-Magat to help gov't in cloud seeding operations
Ramon, Isabela (February 11) -- While the region is experiencing the effect of El Niņo phenomenon to mostly farmers, the SN Aboitiz- Power Magat here wanted to help the government in mitigating its damaged effect to farmers.
The impounded water at the Magt Dam as of press time is recorded at a critical level measuring at 166.26 from its previous normal level of 180-190 meters in the last few months.
SN Aboitiz Plant Manager Melvin Eugenio said over a local radio station here the company will help the government in the cloud seeding operations aimed at inducing rains at the Magat Dam watershed to be used by both the farmers and for power as well.
As of press time, rice fields are at alarming level and can be totally damaged if the dam stopped the water supply if the water level will continue to drop at a critical level.
Rice plants as of press time are on there vegetative and flowering stage and if there will be shortage no more water to absorb by these rice plants it will end into total damage.
Eugenio said that the company wanted to contribute for the benefit of the farmer once there will be temporary rains produced through cloud seeding.
"Our company has programmed to help the government in cloud seeding operation in order to help our farmers to abundantly harvest their products and on one side help our hydro power plant continue producing power", Eugenio said.
SN Aboitiz has already purchased some 1,000 sack of salt through the Department of Agriculture ? Regional Field Unit 2 (DA-RFU2) and presently coordinating with an airline company in Cauayan City for the cloud seeding operations scheduled anytime today and beyond. (PIA Isabela) [top]
