Mindanao outages due to low water inflow
Iligan City (11 February) -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is implementing a Mindanao wide load curtailment for the whole month of February 2010.
Elizabeth Ladaga, corporate relations officer of NGCP Mindanao, said this advisory is being circulated to its power customers.
That load curtailment is imposed due to generation deficiency or insufficient power supply caused by the reduced capabilities of hydro plants having a very low water inflow and maintenance shutdown, and forced outage of power generators.
As a result, electric cooperatives are also imposing rotating brownouts to its service areas.
In Iligan City, residents already experienced power interruptions as early as first week of February, with daily schedules on peak hours, from within 10:00 in the morning until 10:00 in the evening.
The load curtailment aims to preserve the integrity of the Mindanao Grid and to prevent the system from further damage. (NGCP/PIA LDN) [top]
