Aspiring farmers from Tagmanocan, Tambisan witness farmers' field day

Province of Siquijor (11 February) -- Aspiring farmers from barangays Tagmanocan of Lazi town and Tambisan of Siquijor, Siquijor witnessed the Farmers Field Day at Fedelita Dagumo's farm at Tagmanocan, Lazi, Siquijor.

The farmers field day centers on Science and Technology Peanut-Corn production.

Within the program, Magsasaka Siyentista Fedelita Dagumo of Tagmanocan and Genaro Suan, of Tambisan shared their experiences on S&T-based farm.

Edgardo Anhao the technical expert of the Department of Agriculture presented to them the comparison of the amount yield and the estimated income between using the S & T farming and the locally-practiced farming.

The farmers had a field tour after the program.

The farmers received some 300 banana suckers and an initial 30kls. of PN11 peanut seedlings ready for planting.

The provincial government through the FITS consortium also gave them pinakbet seedlings and brochures that contain proper procedures in planting. These were handed over by Provincial FITS Vice-chair Rosalina Catid, and DOST-Siquijor Provincial Director Mario dela Peņa.

Bernadita Tabada, FITS chair also informed the farmers that visit and evaluation of their farm will be conducted to monitor and check if proper application of S&T farming is being followed. (PIA) [top]
