Cagayan de Oro City (12 February) -- At least 98 common poster areas (CPA), 36 in District I and 62 in District II, have been identified by the Commission on Elections in the city relative to this year's May 10, national and local elections.
These CPAs which are mostly located in public places of the city will now cater to the needs of the national and local candidates who are running in the May elections as provided in Republic Act No. 9006.
Otherwise known as the "Fair Election Act," RA 9006 calls for the holding of free, orderly, honest, peaceful and credible elections through fair election practices, Atty. Gina Luna Zayas-Sabio, City Election Officer, said.
Candidates or political parties can exclusively post, display or exhibit their election propaganda in the CPA to announce further their candidacy which they themselves will erect at their own expense and allowed to be put up only in public places, such as plazas, markets, barangay centers and the like where they can be readily seen or read.
Meanwhile, Sabio said the Comelec has ruled out that there should only be at least one (1) CPA for every 5,000 registered voters and an additional CPA for every increment of the same number of registered voters, thereafter.
Cagayan de Oro's has a total of 289,772 registered voters clustered in 358 precincts from the established 1,703 precincts for the city's 80 barangays, she added. (PIA 10) [top]
