Senior citizens center inaugurated in Lagawe

Lagawe, Ifugao (13 February) -- In pursuant to Republic Act 7876 which mandates the establishment of senior citizen centers in all municipalities, the SN Aboitiz Power and the Provincial government of Ifugao jointly inaugurated the two-storey Senior Citizens' center last February 10,.
The inauguration was attended by about a thousand elderlies and officials coming from the different municipalities of the province.
According to Emmanuel V. Rubio, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SN Aboitiz Power, the establishment of the two-storey facility will help affirm the dignity and self worth of the elderlies. "It can help promote strength and independence among our senior citizens, creating a sense of community and involvement in the larger society," Rubio said.
He further stated that across Asian cultures, respect for the elderly is a common thread deeply woven into the moral fabric of society wherein the Philippines leads in this practice and Ifugao is one of the leaders in filial respect for elder family members.
However, respect for the senior members of the family and society should go beyond words and gestures and respect without genuinely recognizing one's value is not respect but merely a showing of condescending attitude," Rubio reiterated.
"Therefore our pride and pleasure in SN Aboitiz Power that we are instrumental for accomplishing the dream of an activity center for senior citizens constructed here in Lagawe and it is also a testament to what the private sector, government, and people's organizations can do together," Rubio said.
SN Aboitiz Power donated a P3.3 million to fund the construction pesos worth of said center under the Community Social Responsibility (CSR) of the SN Aboitiz Magat, Inc. It was constructed and completed under the current administration and through the efforts represented by Miguel Dimalnat, Sr.
Meanwhile, Governor Teodoro Baguilat, Jr. congratulated the senior citizens for pursuing their dream of having a center that serves as venue for meetings, trainings, recreation, socialization and lodging place for senior citizens from far flung areas of the province.
Baguilat hoped that the center will house other services like a provincial pharmacy that caters to the health needs of senior citizens in the province. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
