Baguio bags 2010 CARAA meet crown

Lagawe, Ifugao (13 February) -- Baguio City once again showed its superiority in sports and emerged as the overall winners in the just concluded 2010 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet held here from February 7 to 11.

This yearly athletic event participated by the different provinces of the Cordillera Region composed of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mt. Province and the City of Baguio started and ended smoothly with a very fine weather.

From the preliminaries of the games until the finals, Baguio displayed a clear and consistent dominance over its opponents and maintained its lead in almost all the events played.

Baguio amassed a total of 792.5 medals with 348.5 gold and 444 bronze which is also their total ranking points followed by Benguet with 509 medal tally, Mt. Province with 360.5 medals, Kalinga with 278.5, Ifugao with 268, Abra with 244 and Apayao with 90.5.

The medal haul of Baguio City can be attributed to its complete participation in all the competitive events which include athletics, ball games, gymnastics, swimming, archery, chess, sepak takraw, sipa, taekwondo and badminton.

Baguio took most of its gold harvest from swimming with 60 gold, badminton with 45, volleyball with 40, football with 60 and athletics also with 60 gold.

The winners will represent the Cordillera Region in the coming National Meet or Palarong Pambansa to be held in the coming months at Tarlac, Central Luzon. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
