Bangued, Abra (13 February) -- The provincial government has come up with the Abra Medallion Merit Award (AMMA) for this year's celebration of the Abrenian Kawayan Festival.
The award will be given on Mach 9, 2010 at the Bangued Town Plaza during the celebration of Abra's 93rd Foundation Day.
The AMMA was conceptualized by the provincial government of Abra and was adopted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through Provincial Ordinance No. 146 Series of 2009. It aims to institutionalize the granting of the highest provincial award to deserving Abreņos who attained prominence in the national and international arena.
The AMMA is open to all Abreņos regardless of creed, political affiliation and age, and present residence - whether they live in the province or outside Abra.
This year's AMMA award will be limited to those in the fields of Public Service and Community Service. Others fields will later on be considered for the awards in the succeeding years.
The prizes are a Medallion from the Provincial Government and a cash prize of P25,000.00.
Deadline for the submission of nominations is on February 24, 2010. Nominations may be submitted to the secretariat of the AMMA Committee or to any member of the steering committee.
The AMMA steering committee is composed of two members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan; two representatives from the local media, a representative each from the Philippine Information Agency, non-government organization, academe; and the religious sector. (PIA-Abra) [top]
