DOST to host Northern Luzon Cluster S&T fair

La Trinidad, Benguet (13 February) -- The Department of Science and Technology Cordillera (DOST-CAR) is set to host the 2010 Northern Luzon Cluster Science and Technology (S&T) Fair on February 15-19 at the Benguet State University. This is in line with the DOST's vision of a competent and competitive science and technology community with a social conscience.

The S&T Fair will showcase recent developments and achievement in science and technology while technical conferences will focus particularly on food products innovations, alternative energy and climate change.

DOST Secretary Dr Estrella Alabastro and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Undersecretary Mario Relampagos are set to head the ribbon cutting and the opening of exhibits on February 15.

There will also be an Open Category Robotics competition which will be conducted on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Robotics Competition On-line, wherein the entries are robotic cars that are purely battery operated will be on February 16. According to DOST-CAR Director Ben Ladilad, as of last week there are already 60 entries for the said competition.

On February 17 and 18, there will be an S&T trivia for elementary and secondary levels. All schools in the region are invited to join in this competition, wherein each school can send one team. Some schools from Regions I and II are also expected to join the said S&T Trivia, wherein cash incentives await the winners.

Also on February 16, there will be a Technology Forum on climate change with focus on adaptation and mitigation. Another forum is set for February 17 and the topic for discussion is the importance of segregation and utilization of biodegradable and recyclable wastes.

There will also be a scientific paper presentation on February 18, the said scientific paper focuses on the impact and implications of nutritional status of Filipinos in Northern Luzon. (PIA) [top]
