OCD Provincial Head Marichu Tan reported that in response to a memorandum signed by OCD Administrator Glenn Rabonza their office will conduct the 1st quarter earthquake drill and in pursuant to the pronouncement of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the 1st nationwide earthquake drill last June 20, 2006 that "earthquake drill should be conducted on a quarterly basis and further expand the participation of government and private offices and establishments, until such time that will be perfected and people's reaction during and after an earthquake become second nature to prevent casualties."

Tan disclosed that the pilot area for the said activity will be in the municipality of Macrohon, particularly in the school which will serve as the ceremonial venue of the nationwide activity. This will be coordinated with the Department of Education (DepEd), she added.

The objective of the 1st quarterly earthquake drill is to make the public aware of what to do in case an earthquake will happen in order to prevent casualties.

Tan further reported that local government units, government agencies, private and public schools throughout the province are enjoined to conduct similar activities in their areas. (PIA-soleyte) [top]
