NVizcaya gov tells geodetic engineers to be part of clean governance

by Ben Moses Ebreo

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (February 15) -- Governor Luisa Cuaresma here has challenged geodetic engineers in Cagayan Valley to become partners in their continuing campaign for a clean government.

Cuaresma made the challenge during the two day 36th Annual Regional Convention and Seminar for Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc(GEPI) hosted by its Nueva Vizcaya chapter at the Ammungan Hall within the capitol compound here.

She said that many contractors in the province have offered bribes or so-called SOPs(Standard Operating Procedures) in exchange for possible favors for their interests during her term as local chief executive for Nueva Vizcaya but failed because of her firm conviction that a clean government will provide more projects for the people.

"Since I was a mayor of the municipality of Bambang, I have refused offers such as SOPs because these will destroy the image and crumble the dignity and honor of a leader and will bring chaos to any kind of governance," she said during the opening program.

Cuaresma said her motto of "Malinis na Gobyerno, Tungo sa Maraming Proyekto" has always been her political advocacy to rid off her governance of any suspicions of fraud, graft and corruption.

The governor also encouraged the geodetic engineers to refrain from doing such practices to help and guide political leaders in maintaining their local government units free from graft and corrupt practices acts.

The GEPI annual regional convention according to Engineer Manolito Lumidao, GEPI Nueva Vizcaya chapter president seeks to educate GEPI members on the current trends, techniques and technologies of their profession under the Philippine Regulations Commission (PRC).

"Conventions and seminars such as this one are very important to us because our knowledge and skills will be upgraded aside from the points that we will be earning as required by the PRC before we can renew our licenses," Lumidao said. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
