PhilHealth benefits 81.64 million members
Manila (15 February) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lauded PhilHealth for reaching an expanded membership coverage of 81.64 million beneficiaries as of July 2009 or around 86 percent of the 92 million population, compared to 29.6 million beneficiaries in December 2000.
The President directed PhilHealth president Rey Aquino to continue expanding its programs particularly for underprivileged Filipinos.
In Kabankalan City, a total of 5,659 identified indigents from 32 barangays received their free PhilHealth ID cards from the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.
This is one of the commitments of Neg. Occ. Gov. Isidro Zayco in fulfilling his development agenda spelled out in HEARTH PLUS by providing the Negrenses with better health care and insurance program.
Murcia town Mayor Esteban Coscolluela kicked off the distribution of PhilHealth cards for year 2010 to all Murciahanons, recently. Majority of the barangays in Murcia have availed of the PhilHealth cards being distributed to indigent members of the community.
In Bacolod City, some 20,000 beneficiaries from 61 barangays received their PhilHealth IDs in 2009. (PIA/cad) [top]
