Davao City (February 16) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is heading back to Mindanao today for the agribusiness legacy tour of her administration.
Now on the third leg of the Super Regions program performance evaluation, President Arroyo has chosen Socorro National High School in Surigao del Norte as part of her itinerary.
She is also set to inspect the Lingig-Boston Boundary section of the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road Project in Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
The Davao-Surigao coastal-road project is one of the major road-network projects President Arroyo has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to complete as part of her legacy to the Filipino people.
The different sections of the eastern Mindanao road network are in various stages of completion, with the southernmost section, the Mati-Manay stretch in Davao Oriental, already completed last year.
Work on the southernmost portion of the seven-section road network covering 66.85 kilometers was started in October 2004 and was finished last September. Work on the other six sections were started in 2007.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Ricardo Saludo, in his interaction with the Davao media Monday (February 15), said that the President wanted to let the people know how the government performed specifically in bringing development in Mindanao through the agribusiness sector.
"This Mindanao Agribusiness Super Region has aimed to make Mindanao as the center of agriculture and business," he said.
Saludo cited that the present administration has built and upgraded 4,427 kilometers of roads and extended crop loans of about P4.77 billion to at least 150,000 farmers. Of the 6,557 km of roads nationwide, almost 1,000 kilometers are built in Region XI since 2001.
These are but some of the achievements reported by Saludo in yesterday's Kapehan sa SM.
To cap the day, PGMA is also scheduled to have a dinner with the media in Davao City before she proceeds to her next destination in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat the following day.
Another area included in PGMA's Mindanao Agribusiness tour is the Western Mindanao State University College of Agriculture, San Ramon, Zamboanga City.
Agribusiness Mindanao covers Regions 9 to 12, CARAGA (except Siargao) and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). (PIA XI) [top]
