Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (February 16) -- A P3 million building was recently turned-over to the Ifugao provincial government by a power firm to provide a venue for multiple gatherings and activities of senior citizens in Ifugao province.
The two-storey facility which will serve as a venue for meetings, trainings, recreation, socialization and a lodging place was built by SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) ? Magat Inc. in Lagawe, Ifugao's capital town.
The inauguration rites was witnessed by SNAP-Magat Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio, Ifugao Governor Teodoro B. Baguilat, Jr.and Miguel Dimalnat, president of Ifugao Senior Citizens Association(ISCA) last February 10, according to Rhoda Santos, SNAP Magat Inc. Communications Officer.
She said that during the program, Rubio and Baguilat joined Ifugao elders with their traditional songs and dances from various towns as an expression of gratitude.
The Senior Citizens building was funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of the SNAP Magat, Inc. power firm.
Santos said that Rubio expressed pride in helping realize the dream of senior citizens to have their own activity center, which he hoped will help affirm the dignity and self worth of elder adults.
"Recreation plays a critical role in their lives by contributing to an improved quality of life. Social support is important, and that is made available through activities that can be held in this center" Santos quoted Rubio as saying.
Dimalnat, ISCA president also expressed praise and appreciation on the project which he said was a "dream for many senior citizens in Ifugao."
In 2009, SNAP-Magat funded the construction of the center in support to Republic Act 7876 or an act establishing a senior citizens center in all cities and municipalities.
The center is expected to benefit some 15,000 elder adults in the province.
SNAP Magat owns and operates the 360 megawatt Magat hydroelectric power plant bordering the towns of Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao.
The company is a joint venture of Aboitiz Group and SN Power of Norway, which took over government operations in 2007. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
