BIR 11 bent on meeting target
Iloilo City (16 February) -- BIR 11 Regional Director Atty. Glen Geraldino is bent on working to make the agency achieve its collection goal for 2010 initially set between P5-6 billion.
In a press conference at the Kick-off program of the tax campaign reminding taxpayers to promptly comply, Geraldino said they are intense in their campaigns to hook tax evaders on top of making the public of their obligation to support development with correct taxes.
He said they are closely monitoring compliance of tax payers so not a single centavo is lost for government, with their "Oplan Kandado" which has effected closures of four establishments in Roxas City, 1 in Iloilo and 1 in Kalibo to date.
"If we can sustain close surveillance I am optimistic we can achieve our goal," Geraldino said.
He also said that they will put into effect "Iboto" campaign this elections period, to exact five percent withholding tax from service providers of candidates' campaign materials, like the printing presses, which must remit their withheld taxes not later than June 2010.
The BIR, he added, is also keen on implementing a program that deals with the tax remittances of estates and properties of deceased residents.
Meanwhile, Asst. BIR Commissioner Victoria V. Santos who was present during the kick off and the news conference, asked the media to support the BIR in Western Visayas through public awareness and monitoring of compliance in paying taxes.
She also said that the enhanced Instant "Papremyo sa Resibo" which BIR continues to implement nationwide is also one way of determining whether businesses are duly registered or not through the receipts issued and texted by purchasers.
She encouraged the media to create awareness on this. For the region, as of October 2009, there were only two winners, one for P25,000 and another for P100,000. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
