by Jemin B. Guillermo
Roxas City (16 February) -- Nine local government units in Capiz will be recognized by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Regional Office 6 on February 18 in Iloilo City.
The activity is one of the highlights of this year?s 15th year anniversary of PhilHealth in Western Visayas, Capiz PhilHealth head Joe Frederick Diaz said.
Diaz said that their agency will give plaques of recognition to their top performing partner LGUs, health care providers, health care facilities and collecting agents for the support and relentless efforts in the successful implementation of the universal health insurance coverage, particularly for the poorest of the poor Filipinos in their respective localities.
He revealed that the LGUs that will be awarded during a ceremony in Iloilo include the towns of Cuartero, Dumalag, Sapian, President Roxas, Maayon, Ivisan, Panitan, Roxas City and the provincial government of Capiz.
Diaz pointed out that more than 85 percent of the poorest of the poor population in said communities were already provided with health insurance by their respective LGUs, thus considered to have already universally covered their target under the government?s indigency health insurance program.
He added that said towns have a universal health insurance coverage for the last three years already.
Diaz said that as of December 2009, about 70,507 indigents in Capiz have health insurance already which is more than 200 percent higher than the target poorest of the poor of the province based on the 775,346 projected 2008 Capiz population of the National Statistics Office.
Aside from the LGUs, the PhilHealth will also give recognition to Mambusao District Hospital and the Rural Health Unit of Dumalag town for its 3 in 1 package, namely Out-Patient Benefit package, tuberculosis-Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (TB-DOTS) and Maternity Care package.
Other health care providers that will likewise be cited during said celebration include Eva Paminto of the Sigma Well Family Midwife Clinic, Elma Boluso of Well Family Midwife Clinic in Roxas City and the Saint Anthony Public Private Mix DOTS.
Diaz said that this year?s celebration has a theme "PhilHealth at 15: A Toast to Universal Coverage." (PIA) [top]
