P3-M Senior Citizens' Center rises in Ifugao
Tuguegarao City (16 February) -- The SN Aboitiz Power recently led the inauguration and handover ceremonies of the three-million two-storey building to the provincial government of Ifugao which will serve as activity center for the senior citizens of the said province.
The building was funded from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) allocation of the SNAP Magat.
In a ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol grounds on February 10, 2010, SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP)-Magat Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio handed over the keys of the center to Gov. Teodoro B. Baguilat Jr.
As a way of expressing their gratitude for the project, the senior citizens representing the Ifugao municipalities performed traditional hymns and dances wherein Rubio and Baguilat also joined them on stage. The ceremony was capped by the blessing of the center by St. Mary Magdalene Parish Priest Fr. Valentin Dimoc.
Rubio said the company is proud to help realize the dream of the senior citizens to have their own activity center, which he hopes will help affirm the dignity and self worth of elder adults.
"Recreation plays a critical role in the senior citizens' lives by contributing to an improved quality of life. Social support is important, and that is made available through activities that can be held in this center," he added.
In 2009, SNAP-Magat adopted as a CSR project the funding for the construction of the center which is expected to benefit some 15,000 elder adults in the province. Republic Act 7876 an act establishing a senior citizens center in all cities and municipalities.
SNAP Magat owns and operates the 360 megawatt Magat hydroelectric power plant bordering the towns of Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao. The company is a joint venture of Aboitiz Group and SN Power of Norway, which took over government operations in 2007. (PIA 2) [top]
