Santiago City school participates in nationwide earthquake drill
Tuguegarao City (16 February) -- Thousands of students from the Santiago City National High School, Santiago City are expected to participate in the simultaneous earthquake drill on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
In a memorandum issued by Director Norma C. Talosig of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), she said this is in connection with the four point plan of action of action of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and in pursuant of the instruction of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after the first nationwide earthquake drill on June 20, 2006.
President Arroyo said that earthquake drill should be conducted on a quarterly basis and further expand the participation to government and private offices.
In the earthquake drill, the participants are expected to enact a script prepared by the NDCC. This will rehearse them on how to save themselves and how to vacate the area in orderly manner to prevent other accidents.
Through the conduct of earthquake drills, the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) 2 hoped to prevent tragedies, especially in public places like schools.
The earthquake drill also aims to avoid incidents wherein many people are caught unaware because they are not ready. (PIA 2) [top]
