DOLE, Maasin City celebrate National Working Youth Day

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (17 February) -- To be able to recognize the contributions of the working youth to nation building, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in close coordination with Maasin City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) celebrated the Working Youth Day Friday at the city's gymnasium.
Fe Norma Valuis, DOLE Chief Labor and Employment Officer based here said that DOLE through the Bureau of Working Women and Minors are mandated to initiate and assume active leadership to celebrate the activity scheduled every year commemorating Presidential Proclamation No 111 known as the "working youth day".
The CSWDO through City Social Welfare Officer Febe Maria T. Sta. Cruz conducted a symposium to join the said event celebrated throughout the nation. It was attended by the youths around the city, particularly those who were beneficiaries of the Youth National Service program, one of the priority program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to underscore the importance of youth in community action.
The event started with a short program highlighting the roles of youth in socio-economic development, specifically in the City of Maasin. It was attended by Cong. Roger Mercado who delivered an inspirational message, DOLE Regional Director Forter Puguon, Ms. Valuis, Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco and some local officials.
The day's activity also highlighted the awarding of Nego-Kart livelihood program to the City of Maasin through Mayor Maloney Samaco.
The awarding of the P300,000 worth of check was given by DOLE Regional Director Puguon which will be used for the self-employment and assistance to the 20 beneficiaries for the "Negosyo sa Kariton" program. The beneficiaries will avail at least P15,000 from the said program, a financial grant with some counterpart from the city government, the source said. (PIA-soleyte) [top]
