Tagalog News: Expanded Senior Citizens Act batas na

Manila (17 February) -- Expanded Senior Citizens Act, tuluyan nang naging batas.

Bago tumulak patungong Surigao at Davao para sa kanyang Mindanao Agribusiness legacy tour kahapon, pinirmahan ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 o Republic Act 9994 na mag-i-exempt sa 4.6 milyong senior citizens sa bansa sa pagbabayad ng 12% expanded value added tax.

Ayon kay Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Charito Planas, natanggap ng Malakanyang ang enrolled copy ng nasabing panukala noong gabi ng Lunes at agad namang ni-review ng Office of the Executive Secretary.

Sa pagsasabatas ng panukala, tuluy-tuloy na ring matatamasa ng mga senior citizens ng buo ang 20% discount sa goods and services tulad ng gamot, bayad sa doctor, at pamasahe. Kasama rin sa diskwento ang bayad sa hotel, restaurants, sinehan at ibang katulad na serbisyo.

Mayroon ding 5% discount ang mga senior citizens sa water bills na hindi lalagpas sa 30 cubic meters bawat buwan at electric bills na hindi naman lalampas ng 100 kilowatt-hours.

Tatanggap din ng limang daang pisong buwanang financial assistance ang mga indigent senior citizens.

Ayon kay Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Gary Olivar nanaig sa Pangulo ang kapakanan ng mga senior citizens kumpara sa P1.6 bilyong mawawala sa kabang-yaman ng bansa.

Ang sinumang lalabag sa probisyon ng batas na ito ay pagmumultahin ng P10,000 hanggang P50,000 at maaring makulong ng hindi bababa sa isang buwan at hindi lalampas sa anim na buwan.

Epektibo ang batas pagkatapos ng labinlimang araw na paglalathala sa mga pahayagan. (DE Doguiles/PIA 12) [top]
