AAGAPAY Basilan, supports nationwide OPLAN Pagmamahal sa Kalikasan

Isabela City, Basilan (17 February) -- In support to the nationwide Alalay at Gabay sa Pag-unlad ng Pamayanan (AAGAPAY) OPLAN Pagmamahal sa Kalikasan activity with this year's theme: "Kalikasan: Alagaan, Ugat ng Kabuhayan sa Kinabukasan", the SPOT 902nd Basilan Team Leader, SSgt Jimmy Villanueva spearheaded a multi-sectoral river bank clean-up recently in Basilan.

The activity was in coordination with the 1st Marine Brigade under Brig Gen Eugenio N Clemen AFP with the participation of some Marine soldiers, high school students and civil society organizations (CSOs) and was held at barangay Busay river last February 14, coinciding with the celebration of Valentines Day.

The activity was started with a brief program which was held at Busay Elementary School with an opening prayer by Karancho Provincial Chairman Hji Mohammad Abdulla; welcome remarks by AAGAPAY Basilan Chaiman Mr. Alex Abba followed by messages from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) representative Mr. Edwin Ignacio; Barangay Busay Chaiman Hon. Rogelio Alvarez and Brig Gen Clemen.

BGen Clemen enjoined the audience to take care and love the environment and nature. He also convey his valentine greetings to the participants and lauded their willingness to share some valentine moments with the environment and nature - thru joining cleanliness drive on Valentines Day.

On the other hand, SSg Villanueva also elaborated in his message the AAGAPAY 4Ms ideology: Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makabayan at Makakalikasan. He further expounded to the audience about the organization's (AAGAPAY) three programs: livelihood, education, skills and networking.

The activity was made successful thru the participation of about 300 participants from the 1st Marine Brigade; Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 (MBLT1) headed by Lt Col Fernando Gomez PN(M); Lamitan National High School; Lamitan Christian-Muslim Tricycle Operators Drivers Association; Sta. Clara Agrarian Reform Cooperative; Sta. Clara Youth Organization; Karancho; Lanote Farmers Association; Tabiawan Ayudahan Farmers Association; Tabiawan Youth Organization; Brgy Busay Officials/Women Organization; POT Basilan, 4CRG, CRSAFP and the Vice Governor Office/Ilocano Saranay Association led by Hja Mariam Theresa Sakkalahul.
