60 couples join free mass wedding in Nueva Vizcaya

by Ben Moses Ebreo

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (February 18) -- At least 60 couples from various villages in this town participated in a mass wedding officiated by local officials here today in a bid to transform their marriage vows into a legal document.

The mass wedding program is sponsored by this town's local government unit and its Municipal Local Civil Registrar's Office.

"This is our yearly program which is intended to provide legal documents to unwed couples in our barangays due to their inability to shoulder the financial requirements of having a wedding ceremony in their villages," said Engineer Manolito Lumidao, municipal civil registrar.

Dubbed as "Tamang Rehistro, Lahat Panalo" project, the mass wedding was also offered to couples as a post-Valentine's day gift.

More than 100 couples were also given legal documents as husbands and wives in a separate mass wedding ceremonies last week, sponsored by the local governments of Diadi, Villaverde and Bagabag, Lumidao, also the president of local civil registrars of Nueva Vizcaya said. (PIA NV) [top]
