PIA Press Release

DSWD to add 11,000 beneficiaries of 4Ps

Tuguegarao City (18 February) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2 is set to add additional 11,267 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Cagayan Valley.

Ms. Patrianne Padua, Information Officer, said the target beneficiaries are additional to the first 5,000 families who have been enjoying the benefits from 4Ps in the municipalities of Palanan, Divilican and San Mariano of Isabela.

Padua said the prospects are the poor families from the municipalities of Kayapa and Sta. Fe of Nueva Vizcaya; Jones, San Guillermo, Sta. Maria and Santiago City of Isabela; Amulung, Peņablanca, Sta. Ana, and Tuao of Cagayan; Nagtipunan of Quirino; and Basco of Batanes.

"We are on the process of validating the submitted lists of beneficiaries. As of now, Sta. Fe, Kayapa, Santiago City and Sta Maria were already validated", Padua said.

She added that for the other municipalities, they are still waiting for the proximate tests or the list of target beneficiaries that the municipal social welfare offices submit to them for field validation.

Padua also related that during their validation, they encountered double entries to the master lists and many failed to show-up in the validation process because they are busy in their farm works; however, they are given three weeks to undergo the process of validation to complete the requirements.

She further added that DSWD Regional Director Arnel Garcia has added one condition to the beneficiaries, a requirement of establishing their own backyard garden.

"The added condition is an initiative of Dir. Garcia to teach the beneficiaries not to be too much dependent to the cash grants from the government", Padua added. (Oliver B. /PIA 2) [top]
