Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya (February 19) -- A P.3 million fruit and veggie trading center was formally opened in barangay Decabacan here Thursday (February 18) by municipal and provincial officials to provide upland farmers of this town a venue to market their products.
The three-stall building was put-up through the Department of Agriculture's (DA) "Barangay Bagsakan Program" designed to help farmers cut their transportation cost and provide a marketable area for their upland products, said Jasmin Ballesteros, municipal agriculture officer.
"For years, our farmers here and in neighboring barangays were hard up in transporting their product because they spend for their transportation cost in bringing them to the market. With this Bagsakan center, traders will come to our village to buy our products, therefore, we can save expenses," said barangay captain Julia Tumacder.
Tumacder said the barangay trading center will also cater to the upland farmers of barangays Ampakleng, Nagsabaran, Rosario and Lurad for their pineapple, rootcrops and assorted vegetable products.
The trading center in barangay Decabacan here is the first of the 4 proposed projects to be established under the DA's "Barangay Bagsakan Program" also in the municipalities of Sta. Fe, Dupax del Norte and Dupax del Sur.
The Bagsakan center in this town was funded by the barangay local government unit with P100,000.00 and the agriculture department's counterpart fund of P200,000. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
