DPWH bids out P1.37B projects to ease up transport of goods in Northern Mindanao

Cagayan de Oro City (19 February) -- Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said her administration has made huge investments in Mindanao to improve the island?s standard of living and to sustain peace.

This was emphasized by the President, during her recent visit in Masiu, Lanao del Sur where she inaugurated its town hall and the public market of the neighboring Taraka town and led the groundbreaking of its water system, as part of her agribusiness tour of the island.

"Mindanao is the food basket of the country. Let us invest in Mindanao because it is our only hope and not because of fear that we will enhance our productivity," the President said.

She said Mindanao's agribusiness potentials is expected to grow with the completion of various infrastructure projects which are designed to provide a faster mode of transporting agricultural inputs and outputs.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), region 10, will implement at least nine (9) infrastructure projects worth Php1.37B, this year, to ease up the transport of goods and services in this part of Mindanao.

Engr. Mauro D. Bravo, Jr., Asst. Regional Director of DPWH-10 and Chairperson of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC), said 11 contractors with proven good track record duly classified and registered with the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) and the DPWH Registry of Contractors have been notified to bid for the projects.

The projects will be implemented through the Alternative or Negotiated Method of Procurement pursuant to Rule XVI, Section 53 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Revised Republic Act No. 9418, otherwise known as the Government Procurement Reform Act.

Bravo said the location, their respective costs and the schedule of completion of these projects are as follows:

Rehabilitation / reconstruction / upgrading of damaged paved national roads, along Sayre Highway in Bukidnon District I, Php172.79M for 150 calendar days (CD) and Bukidnon District 3, Php100M for 170 C.D., along Cagayan de Oro City (CDO) District 1, Php86.942M for 170 C.D. and along the Bukidnon-Davao City Road, Php83.536M for 170 C.D.

Upgrading from gravel to paved road along the S.H. Aglayan-Zamboanguita Junction in Bukidnon District 2, Php50M for 150 C.D., completion / continuation of CDO's 3rd Bridge Access Road in the CDO inter-districts, Php360M for 270C.D. and Malitbog Bridge along the Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon-Agusan Road in Bukidnon District I, Php50M for 150 C.D.

Construction (road opening) / improvement of the Iligan City Circumferential Road, in Lanao del Norte District 1, Php375M for 270C.D. and road to complete the Nautical Highway / rehabilitation along the Butuan?Cagayan de Oro, Iligan City Road in Mis.
