Mayoyao, Ifugao (20 February) -- Three Senior Girl Scouts of the Mayoyao National High School (MNHS) received recently the Gold Medal Scheme Award (GMSA) at the Malacanang Palace.

Christylyn Gawonggana, Definie Pakelman and Yvonne Tapay were among the 250 senior girl scouts throughout the country who received the said award from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The GMSA is the highest girl scout award for outstanding girl scouts in the secondary level.

Leonardo Cacliong of the MNHS said Gawongana has initiated forestry nursery in her own barangay at Buninan now turned over to the barangay council for sustainability.

On the other hand, Pakelman initiated the beautification of the community center and barangay hall and ground of Langayan Mayoyao now turned over to Barangay council for maintenance. Tapay started an agro-forestry nursery at Barangay Balangbang.

Cacliong said that all their projects were intended for the community using available resources in the locality particularly harnessing human resources and promoting the spirit of scout among the residents.

"Their community projects were earlier evaluated by the GSP evaluation team composed of the Council Executive, the Regional Executive and the National GSP Executive," he said.

Aside from the awards, the girls scouts received P10,000.00 for the maintenance of their community projects.

This is the second time that MNHS produced GMSA awardees. The first was in 2000 in the persons of Senior Girl Scouts Mary Joyce Baguitan and Windy Tapay. Vency D. Bulayungan(PIA-Ifugao) [top]
