Ifugao town creates rabies control committee

Lamut, Ifugao (20 February) -- To ensure the prevention and eradication of rabies here, the Municipal Government recently organized the Rabies Control Coordinating Committee (RCCC).

The organization is by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 2009-008 legislated by the Sangguniang Bayan last year.

This is also to intensify the anti-rabies campaign in all barangays and in the municipal level in relation to the Bureau of Animal Industry Administrative Order No. 49 that dog owners should submit their dogs for vaccination.

To ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the eradication and anti-rabies campaign, the RCCC shall be headed by the Municipal Mayor and the Provincial Veterinarian or any representative as an Executive Officer. Members will be composed of the chairperson of SB committee on Health and Agriculture, Municipal Health Officer, Municipal Agriculture Officer, President, Association of Barangay Captains, DILG representative, Municipal Chief of Police, Department of Education District Supervisor and two representatives from the Non-Government Organization.

The RCC shall provides a forum for an inter-agency coordination and formulates and implements immediate and long-term policies, plans and programs for the control of rabies in the municipality.

Furthermore, it provides a mechanism for linkages with national rabies prevention and control committee for the involvement of all barangay in the control of rabies.

Meanwhile, the municipal veterinarian or trained vaccinator shall complete a certificate or rabies vaccination for each dog, cat and other trained domesticated animal vaccinated.

The municipal government shall appropriate funds to cover expenses for the purchase of rabies vaccines and the establishment of a Municipal Dog pound. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
