Comelec to train field personnel in Ifugao

by Mhars B. Lihgawon

Lagawe, Ifugao (20 February) -- In preparation for the upcoming May 2010 polls, the Commission on Election (COMELEC) here is set to hold a training for field personnel on February 20-21 at the Banaue Hotel.

Provincial Election Supervisor (PES) Ricardo Bolintao said the two-days training is aimed to set up field personnel of the province to be ready in handling the big challenge of the May 10 national and local elections.

Field personnel refer to the different Municipal Election Officers (MEO) and their assistants including the employees of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and District Supervisors of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the province who will assist during the election period.

Bolintao reiterated that field personnel will be oriented about the general instruction for teachers who will sit as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) including their qualifications to avoid problems during the election day.

"There's a new phrase added in the old provision and this might lead to disqualifications of some of the BEIs. This concern should be addressed before the start of their training this coming month," Bolintao said.

He further explained that the participants will be oriented regarding the counting and transporting of election results and the operation of the Precinct Counting Optical Scan (PICOs) machines.

Meanwhile, Bolintao revealed that the COMELEC will soon be conducting voters education campaign in the different municipalities in the province to create more awareness about the 2010 poll automation.

He also added that local candidates will be requested to include voters education on the automated elections in their campaign sorties. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
