Comelec conducts voters' education in Apayao

Pudtol, Apayao (20 February) -- The Commission on Elections conducts Voter's Education in the municipality of Pudtol in Apayao last week.

COMELEC Regional Director Julius Torres personally conducted the voter's education for the Iapayaos as part of the Say- am Festival in celebration of the 15th Founding Anniversary of the province of Apayao last February 14.

More than 300 participants joined the activity that was held at the Pudtol old gymnasium. Local government officials from the different municipalities lead their constituents to have a glimpse of the automated elections process.

Torres showed the process of voting during the forum using the PCOS machines. Local officials even had the hands on trial on the PCOS and making sure that their votes were counted by the machine.

People during the forum questioned whether their province will be automated during the May 10 election. Torres assured the province will be fully automated come May 10.

The seven municipalities of Apayao namely Pudtol, Calanasan, Conner, Flora, Kabugao, Santa Marcela and Luna have cell phone signals and voting precincts where the Precinct Count Optical Scan machines will be placed in areas that have cell signals, Torrers said.

Torres also cleared that the senior citizens and people with disabilities will have special treatments during the election. (PIA) [top]
