UNDP provides electricity, water to 173 DSWD housing units in Camarines Sur

Camarines Sur (February 21) -- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) yesterday, February 19, has provided electricity and water facilities to a total of 173 housing units built by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under its Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP).

This is part of the UNDP-funded "Recovery Program for Typhoon-Affected Provinces of the Bicol Region," which is being implemented by DSWD. The Program seeks to respond to the ongoing recovery needs of the Bicol Region, which has continually experienced displacement and other disruptions in social and economic life due to several typhoons that hit the area every year.

DSWD Acting Secretary Celia Capadocia-Yangco and UNDP Crisis Prevention and Recovery Portfolio Manager Alma Evangelista led the turn-over rites yesterday at the Buenavista Resettlement Site in Tinambak, Camarines Sur.

This was followed by ground-breaking ceremonies in the afternoon for the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Barangays Mambulo Nuevo and Bigajo Norte in Libmanan, also in Camarines Sur. The evacuation-ready facilities will be used as a barangay health station, community library, and senior citizens center, among other purposes.
