Communist-NPAs burn logging equipment in Agusan del Sur

Sibagat, Agusan del Sur (February 22) -- The regional command of the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) on Monday ordered field units to help the military in tracking down the communist-New People's Army (NPA), who allegedly burned a logging truck over the weekend at Sitio Jebron, Barangay New Tubijon, Sibagat town, Agusan del Sur.

Chief Supt. Lino D. Calingasan, regional director of PRO 13, also ordered the regional and provincial mobile force to coordinate with the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade to have a joint pursuit operations against the fleeing communist terrorists in Jebron area.

The fleeing communists were members of communist-Front Committee 21-B of the Communits Party of the Philippines (CPP)-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NMRC) reportedly led by "Ka Winston", initial police report said.

The report stated that "Ka Winston" and his men swooped down on Jebron area and burned one unit of logging truck owned by certain Elsie Sag-od.

However, the field report said no one was reported hurt during the incident. The motive is still not known.

In another development, a tribal chieftain of Banwaon tribe was gunned down while his companion was critically hurt when undetermined number of armed men believed to be communist terrorists peppered them with high powered automatic rifles Friday evening at Purok 1, Barangay (village) Maningalao, Las Nieves town, Agusan del Norte, the police also reported Monday.

Police, identified the victim as Bartolome S. Romero, 48, chieftain of Banwaon tribe based in the said area.

Romero sustained five gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body, police report said.

On the other hand, his companion Fernando S. Romero, 42, suffered a gunshot wound at his upper left thigh and was brought to Butuan City Medical Center.

Motive of the incident is yet to be determined by the police investigating team of Las Nieves Police Station. (muc/PIA-Caraga) [top]
