Talisay City gets recognition from PhilHealth
Bacolod City (22 February) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in Region VI gave special recognition honors to Talisay City in Negros Occidental in a ceremony held at Iloilo City recently in celebration of its 15th anniversary.
Talisay City was cited for its valuable support to the National Health Insurance Program, and its implementation and having achieved universal coverage of its poor households for three consecutive years from 2007-2009.
To date, following its intensive registration drive in the barangays, Talisay City has issued a total of 10,589 health cards, also known as Medicare Para sa Masa Program, thus making it the only Local Government Unit in Negros Occidental to be given such award.
Talisay City Mayor Dr. Eric Saratan, who recently got the National Hall of Fame Award in Health and Nutrition, said the award can be attributed to the barangay captains and health workers who worked hard to give the poor adequate health services.
As of July 2009, PhilHealth reached an expanded membership coverage of 81.64 million beneficiaries all over the country, under the Arroyo administration. (PIA/cad) [top]
