DA, NIA give water pumps to Isabela irrigators associations
Cauayan City, Isabela (February 22) -- With the deep commitment of the Department of Agriculture to help El Niņo affected farmers in mitigating its severe impact, the DA through the Cagayan Valley?s National Irrigation Administration (NIA-2) handed eight (8) units water pumps with complete accessories to selected irrigators association being serviced by Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (MRIIS) in Isabela.
DA Undersecretary Atty. Bernie Fondevilla, during his visit at the Regional Office of National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in this city, led the handing of the water pumps to farmers here.
This was also the time the DA official assured to farmers here the full assistance of the national government to affected farmers.
He said that El Nino?s effect has already felt in entire country especially to agriculture sector and the government is looking into a short and long term solutions to mitigate the impact of the dry spell to all farmers in the country.
Fondevilla said the giving of water pumps to farmers is only one of the government's short term solutionS to save rice farms from further damage on crops and long term solutions include the identification of El Niņo affected farmers to be prioritized in the food aid and livelihood programs.
The DA also is continuing its efforts in the cloud seeding operations on the watershed areas of dams in the country.
"All we have to do is cooperate to brace the effect of El Niņo and soon this crisis will pass like other calamities," Fondevilla said.
Before his coming in Isabela, the DA acting secretary personally oversee cloud operations in Nueva Vizcaya then proceeded to Quirino province meeting municipal agriculturists and made field visitations to farms that were severely hit by the dry spell. (PIA Isabela) [top]
