Daycare workers converge for annual convention in Cagayan de Oro
Cagayan de Oro City (22 February) -- Hundreds of day care workers in Misamis Oriental converged on Friday, February 19, for a Provincial Day Care Workers' Annual Convention at the provincial capitol grounds in Cagayan de Oro City.
With the theme, "Day Care Workers sa Lalawigan, Kaabag sa Pag-umol sa Kabataan," the whole-day activity was graced by Assistant Secretary Emeterio "Onyok" Moreno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, who pitched in as the occasion's main speaker as cabinet secretary and former justice secretary Silvestre "Bebot" Bello could not make it.
Moreno, who rose from the ranks in the DILG organization, said he is cognizant of sacrifices and patience of day care workers, acting as surrogate parents to many as they assist in molding the hearts and minds of the young to become useful and productive citizens.
Aside from DILG's main man for legal, administrative and human resource development, Philippine Tourism Authority administrator Mark Lapid attended the gathering even as he assured Governor Oscar S. Moreno of support for tourism-related projects in the province.
Former vice governor Julio Uy also shared his thoughts for the day care workers, saying the frontliners in the training of children must be compensated for their efforts and that the municipal and barangay governments must share in providing them incentives.
Both Onyok Moreno and Uy are seeking the two (2) congressional seats in Misamis Oriental in the May 10 elections.
Meanwhile, Governor Oscar S. Moreno led in recognizing the province's outstanding day care workers, particularly those who have been in the service for 15 years and more.
