9th Musikahan Festival: Rondal-Awit seizes 2nd day

Davao City (23 February) -- The 2nd day offers an enchanting afternoon of string ensembles combined with exquisite solo vocal performances from different competitors of Rondal-Awit classified as a musical combination of string ensemble in Rondalla and creative songs competition participated by schools and other institutions in Mindanao Region held at the Atrium of Tagum New City Hall on February 20, 2009.

Contestants are gauged according to music quality, interpretation, harmony with rondalla, mastery, and deportment. They are categorized according to age, 7-12 years old for Junior Category and 13 years above belongs to Senior Category.

Each category requires a minimum number of 10 and maximum number of 26 rondalla players, soloist and conducter/conductress. The participating rondalla ensemble for both categories play three (3) pieces: Two (2) pieces of their own choice with a maximum of 15 minutes performance and medley is not allowed. One (1) piece shall be interpreted with a song in a maximum of 5 minutes per performance.

In rondalla music ensemble, these are the prizes at stake per category, to wit:

For awit-solo category, the prizes at stake are:

For the final result of Rondal-Awit (Rondalla) in Junior (Children) category, Maco Heights Central Elementary School bags the 1st prize. Sto. Tomas Central Elementary School got the 2nd prize with their Mr. Joselito Gudio as Best Conductor. Surallah Central Elementary School of South Cotabato got the 3rd place while Magallanes Elementary School of Davao City and Rizal Elementary School of Panabo follows.

The Solo competition champion goes to Surallah Central Elementary School of South Cotabato, Sto. Tomas Elementary School got the 2nd prize and Rizal Elementary School of Panabo got the 3rd prize. Maco Heights Central Elementary School and Magallanes Elementary School of Davao City follows.

For the final result of Rondal-Awit (Rondalla) in Senior category, Tagum City National Comprehensive High School is declared as Champion. The 2nd Prize goes to University of Mindanao Tagum Campus and 3rd place goes to A.O. Floirendo National High School of Panabo.
