P59-M worth of marijuana plants uprooted in Ilocos Sur

Camp President Quirino, Bantay, Ilocos Sur (23 February) -- Joint operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the different units of police provincial office uprooted anew some Php59- million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in a 2- day operations along the mountainous areas in Barangay Dinuebe East, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, it was reported recently.
Senior Inspector Federico Calibuso, Cervantes town's Chief of Police, told that the operating troops discovered the scattered marijuana plantations with a total estimated area of 6 hectares in the mountainous areas located in Sitios Tagpio and Sabsabitin, Barangay Dinuebe East of said town.
"Our operation started when we received reports from our civilian assets about the presence of many marijuana plantations sites in the area which we confirmed and uprooted about 288,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 40,000 Marijuana seedlings with an estimated value of P59 million based on the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB) standard," Calibuso said.
"After uprooting, we immediately burned the marijuana plants in the plantation sites with the presence of PDEA agents, local officials and religious leaders from the barangay. We bring several bundles of the uprooted Marijuana plants as samples for documentation and proper disposition at the police provincial office," he added.
For his part, Ilocos Sur police director Eduardo A. Dopale lauded the effort of the local police and members of the PDEA for the successful marijuana eradication operations in the hinterlands in Cervantes town.
"Our campaigns against illegal drugs are continuing to eradicate this menace of our society," Dopale said. (PIA-Ilocos Sur) [top]
