Alvarez calls for campaign to reduce carbon emission in RP

By Rhisan Mae E. Morales

Davao City (24 February) -- Febuary 17, 2010 at the Marco Polo Eagle's Bar, Climate Change Secretary Heherson Alvarez calls upon every Filipino citizen to be reduced its carbon emission most especially the business sector in the country.

Alvarez in his speech was urging the business sectors to participate in the environmental programs that help in reducing the usage of energy and water energies in their companies. This is part of the worldwide campaign to help mitigate the impact of climate change not just in the country but in the whole global community as a whole.

The Philippines has been urging early cuts that started during the early 1990s. The country aimed to cut carbon dioxide emission of at least 30% on the years 2013-2017, an assumed 50% during the years 2018-2022 and hopefully would reach to 95% by the year 2050. However this is will be a long way ahead and will be a great endeavor to all of us that we should address to.

As what have been Alvarez was always saying during his forums; "We have to struggle in order to create a low carbon community". And this challenge should be deal b every citizens of the country both in the public and private sphere.

Alvarez also mentioned about the ongoing process of the Reduction of Emission from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which was anticipated by the business sectors. (PIA XI) [top]
