SSS offers penalty condonation

Dagupan City (24 February) -- Good news for employers with delinguent payments to the Social Security System office: The SSS now offers a condonation program until July 31 this year.
Field inspector Primitivo Verania said the penalty for non-payment of three years can be condoned and all the employer needs to do is to apply for condonement at the SSS office. The program covers delinquent payments prior to February 1, 2010, he clarified.
"We appeal to all employers to avail of this chance because if there will be no remittance premium, the benefits of the employees will be forfeited," Verania said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency aired live over Radyo ng Bayan, Tuesday.
Non-medical division head Lina Festejo added that the SSS program on mandatory coverage of public land transport service is continuous. Operators, drivers and even conductors are obliged to file their SSS remittances, she stressed.
"For public land transport, no SSS clearance means no renewal of franchise since the clearance is a requirement," Festejo explained.
Verania further explained that his office aims for universal coverage so members can avail of all benefits including loans, sickness, disability and death benefits. (PIA-Pangasinan) [top]
