Manila (25 February) -- Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo joined the thousands of Filipinos who celebrated today the brief but meaningful 24th EDSA Revolution anniversary.
Clad in her favorite powder blue suit, the President briefly said an extensive message about what EDSA People Revolution should really mean to all Filipinos.
According to the President, 24 years back, "the Filipinos taught the world how to be free again as they joined the, prayerful, peaceful and bloodless People Revolution" which ousted the 20-years of dictator leadership.
Today, she said, the country is still in a revolt state, but no longer against a single rule but against poverty, hunger and ignorance.
People Power celebration however, is not a partisan revolution, she added, because it is about heroism of the many Filipinos as it symbolized the spirit of greatness of every Filipino. It is about celebrating the thousands of OFWs who continue to work afar from their families in order to help the country turn around.
Immediately after her talk, the President opened the loop which closes LRT and MRT. According to her, this project is a testament of Filipinos who ply daily the EDSA highway. This will ease or shorten the travels of the public to and from their places of works and schools.
Also, President Arroyo opened the big Jobs Fair at the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) where local and international employers await for job seekers.
The 24th EDSA People Power Celebration with the theme " Diwa ng EDSA, gabay sa ating Kinabukasan" was also attended by former President Fidel Ramos. (PIA-Eastern Samar) [top]
