9 Western Visayas students qualify for OWWA scholarship

Iloilo City (25 February) -- Nine incoming college students from Western Visayas will avail the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)for the school year 2010-2011.

This new set of scholars from the region came from Iloilo City and the provinces of Negros Occidental, Aklan and Antique. They were among the 150 beneficiaries/dependents of OWWA member-Overseas Filipino Workers nationwide who qualified for the scholarship grant this coming school year.

The new scholars from Iloilo City are Lian Marie Sayno of Sta. Cruz Arevalo, Irish Joy De Ocampo of Sook, Brgy. Bolilao, Jekko Earl Garzon of Sunshine Valley, Mandurriao and Arthur James Rendon of Sto. Nino Sur Arevalo.

For Negros Occidental, the new scholars include John Michael Alelis of Menlo Heights, Talisay City, Rico Paolo Belonio of Avancena St., Sagay City and Hannah Grace Dacanay of Sagay City.

Those who qualified for the scholarship in Aklan and Antique were Prishel Jeane Reovoca of Magpag-ong, Batan and Mariel Riba Rivera of Ipil, Barbaza.

The EDSP is offered to qualified beneficiaries/dependents of OWWA member-OFWs who intend to enroll in any 4- to 5-year baccalaureate course in accredited college or university by the Commission on Higher Education. (PIA) [top]
