By Jonnie H. Buenaventura

Tacloban City (26 February) -- With the theme "Heroes and Nationalism", the three Visayas region is committed to showcase their emerging One Visayas, One people, One Destiny tag line to strengthen cultural bond among the different islands in the Visayas regions which cover regions VI, VII and VIII to showcase their different products, arts, cultures and festivals and to promote the Visayas as a tourism hub by bringing different festivals in one area.

According to Emma Sanopo, Assistant Regional Director, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-8), that the One Visayas project was conceptualized by the heads of the Regional Development Councils (RDCs) of Western, Central and Eastern, Visayas.

Asst. Dir. Sanopo further added that One Visayas is the most serious attempt to bring together the provinces of the three Central Philippines regions to showcase the best of their culture and art forms.

This can be gleaned as the mother of all festivals which will pay tribute to home-grown talents to perform, demonstrate or talk about the different native and indigenous visual arts, theater, film, architecture, literature and marketing of local products and creative services and share best practices of each locality of the three Visayas regions, she said.

In region 8, Calbayog City will bring two cultural presentations contingent that will perform during the One Visayas festival which will start on March 11 and will end on March 14, 2010.

Three local producers from Samar province will join during the festival and will showcase their best products such as the tahong crackers, danggit, and tikog to fill the food and products festival.

Province of Leyte will also take the opportunity to showcase the best of Leyte by bringing with them the historical landmark that made Leyte known throughout the whole world thru photo exhibit, the memorabilla of Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur and the attestation of the winning living oldest veteran of World War II.

Leyte's tribute in honoring the living heroes of World War II is one way of imparting the times when they defended the Philippines against foreign invaders thus liberated the entire archipelago with the help of the allied forces.

This year's One Visayas festival is hosted by RDC Region 6 and will be celebrated at Roxas City, Capiz on March 11-14, 2010. (PIA-8) [top]
