NSO to present national demographic and health survey results

Iloilo City (26 February) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO) is now ready to present the 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) for wider dissemination to various sectors who are primary users of the data.

The Data Presentation among program implementers, policy makers, and officials of local government units in the region, on March 2, 2010 at the Grand Tower Hotel, Iznart St., Iloilo City.

NSO Director Normal Julag-ay said the presentation coincides with the celebration of Women’s Month this March, as the 2008 NDHS is a nationwide representative survey of women aged 15-49.

As lead agency in the activity, NSO seeks to provide data to policy makers and program managers, with detailed information on family planning, childhood and adult mortality, maternal and child health and knowledge and attitudes related to HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.

The results will be presented by areas, namely, Maternal and Child Health, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS Knowledge and Behavior, Health Utilization and Financing, Fertility of Women in the Philippines, Family Planning Practice of Women in the Philippines, Violence Against Women, Women’s empowerment and Demographic and health Outcomes.

Julag-ay said the presentations will also include discussions and analysis of issues arising from the results of the survey which wil serve as inputs for the drafting of action plans and programs of LGUs particularly on health concerns.

At the close of the presentation, the Department of Health (DOH) will be discussing the implications of the Survey findings on future Policies and programs on health of women and children. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
