OCRG-NSO, MCROS celebrate Civil Registration Month

Siquijor (27 February) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO) together with the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in all cities and municipalities in the country celebrated February 2010 as the National Civil Registration Month (NCRM).

Provincial Statistics Officer Ronaldo C. Taghap said various activities were conducted to promote and advance public awareness and consciousness on the importance of Civil Registration.

Among those, he said was a conference for the Municipal Civil Registrars (MCRs) and (MCRO) personnel from the six municipalities held at NSO-Siquijor Provincial Office. The said conference was set to discuss issues and concerns pertaining to Civil Registration operation and services in every municipality, he added.

Streamers bannering the theme for this year's celebration were also displayed while lectures and symposiums on "Civil Registration System of the Philippines" were conducted in various schools/colleges, offices in the province and also during Pre- marriage counseling seminar (PMC) in every municipality for couples scheduled for marriage.

During lectures/seminars, brochures/leaflets highlighting questions/queries on Civil Registration were given to participants for reference.

Among others, NSO personnel were also present in the 27th "Halad sa Katawhan" activity held at Lazi Social Center in Lazi, Siquijor, which aimed at delivering basic services to the people. During this activity, applications/requests for copies of civil registry documents in security papers (SECPA) are accepted. These are being processed at the NSO Serbilis Center in Dumaguete City.

Taghap also said that their office is always ready to give assistance for information relative to the celebration and other Civil Registration services. The public is advised to visit or call the National Statistics Office, Siquijor P.O. with telephone numbers (035) 344-2002 or (035) 480-9003 or the Office of the Municipal Civil Registrar in your locality, he added.

February 2010 is celebrated as "National Civil Registration Month" embracing the theme "Wastong Rehistro: Lahat Panalo". "Through this theme, emphasis on global significance of civil registration in the lives of every Filipino was demonstrated," Taghap said.

The said celebration is pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 issued by President Corazon C. Aquino on January 19,1991.

For the first time, the Civil Registrars Association of Siquijor Province (CRASP) in coordination with the National Statistics Office (NSO) held a raffle draw and information campaign at the Siquijor Capital Square, Siquijor, Siquijor as their participation to the Civil Registration Month.
