Bacolod City offers P100-T to provincial gov't for cloud seeding
Bacolod City (27 February) -- The Bacolod City government will tie-up with the Province of Negros Occ. in fighting El Niņo Phenomenon by contributing P100, 000 for its cloud seeding operations, a local paper here said.
Bacolod City Agriculturist Lawyer Goldwyn Nifras said the city is doing its own preparations to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat and will implement measures to cushion its impact on city dwellers especially its effects on the availability of safe potable water.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Chief Engr. Igmedio Tabianan said the Department of Agriculture is extending a P1 million counterpart to the province for the continued cloud seeding operations that started last February 1 of this year. The activity will be carried through July.
Reports of light to moderate rains have been noted in various areas of the province. In many occasions, people in Bacolod City experienced cooler days due to the presence of cloud seeded rains.
More than P7 million worth of crops have been reportedly affected while over P1 million animals have been ravaged by the continued rising of the weather that is expected to make summer days hotter.
Negros Occ. Governor Isidro Zayco had asked the national government for a P39 million assistance fund to the province and directed the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office to make representations in their central office for possible aid to affected families. (PIA-LOL) [top]
