March 8 declared special day for women in Mt Province

Bontoc, Mt. Province (27 February) -- Governor Maximo B. Dalog issued an Executive Order declaring March 8, 2010 as a Special Day for Women in Mt. Province in line with upcoming nationwide celebration of the International Women's Day.
The annual celebration is mandated by Proclamation No. 224 declaring the First Week of March of every year as Women's Week and March 8, 1988 and every year thereafter as Women's Rights and International Peace Day.
Cognizant of the important role of women in pursuing development goals and objectives, Dalog in his executive order officially excuses all women officials and employees in the province from performing their regular functions to allow them to actively participate in all fitting activities during the provincial celebration of Women's Day.
According to Miguela Angwani of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) here, the celebration with the e theme: "Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan, īstarts with a "walk for a cause" from Kalonglong, Samoki to the Mt. Province Multi-Purpose Building.
Each participant shall pay a minimum registration fee of P5.00. which shall l be used as prizes in the parlor games.
Other activities to be undertaken include an orientation on healthy lifestyle and a lecture on Organic Food Preparation. There will be also physical activities like ballroom dancing, Tai Chi, physical exercises and parlor games.
The celebration is sponsored by the provincial government.
Angwani said the different municipalities shall have their own activities to be undertaken in celebration of the said occasion. (PIA-MP) [top]
