Paracelis reports P74-M damages due to dry spell

by Juliet B. Saley

Paracelis, Mt. Province (27 February) -- Initial report from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) office showed that this municipality incurred a total damage of P74,504,898.00 in corn due to the dry spell.

Provincial Agricultural Statistics Officer Canuto Tawali said areas planted with yellow corn covered 3,141 hectares, 1,540 of which are in reproductive stage while the other 1,601 hectares planted last January are in the vegetative stage.

As a result of the dry spell, 1,000 hectares of the vegetative plants have no chance of recovery because these areas are open which are exposed to the sun while the other 601 hectares have a chance of recovery because some of these areas are forested and the others are near the river, Canuto said.

Based on the data of the BAS office, with this dry spell, yield is affected incurring a production loss of 1,509.20 metric tons or a total amount of P17,295,432.00 for the reproductive stage and production loss for the vegetative stage is 4,992.10 metric tons or a total amount of P57,209,466.00.(PIA-MP) [top]
