By Sarx Lanos

Mati City (6 March) -- Another 25,000 seedlings of different species of trees were now bagged at the newly established nursery of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental located at Sitio Magay, Barangay Don Martin Marundan, this city.

Dante M. Ganir, head of the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao Oriental bared that the bagging of tree-seedlings is part of the leading steps for the continuance of the Million Trees Movement for Davao Oriental, a special program of Governor Corazon T. Nuņez-Malanyaon.

Ganir added that the Million Trees Movement that was launched by Governor Malanyaon on June 22 last year is to fulfill her commitment to regreen and restore the forest canopy of the province as well as to help abate the global warming and climate change.

The provincial nursery that is manned by Forester Claudio Mirafuentes and Nestor Silva Llana was just constructed by the ENRO office last February and is able to produce 25,000 on top of the projected 50,000 plantable seedlings by June 22, 2010 that includes acacia mangium, golden shower, cherry blossom, tringon (alibangbang) and neem tree.

"Next month we will bag another species of trees and we will never stop producing seedlings," Ganir also disclosed. (ManStar News Service) [top]
