Ifugao Barangay captains to do IEC on regional autonomy

Lagawe, Ifugao (6 March) -- The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in the province has agreed to promote regional autonomy in their respective barangays.
This agreement was made during the first Barangay Captains Congress held at the Lagawe Central Central School Conference hall attended by about 135 barangay executives in the province recently. The said congress was spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Office of the ABC Provincial president.
According to Ifugao ABC President Allan Cuttiyog, barangay captains will conduct information advocacy about regional autonomy in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
"These officials will act as force multipliers or advocators of regional autonomy for the people to have better understanding about this matter most especially in the remote areas in the province," Cuttiyog said.
He added that regional autonomy will be tackled regularly during barangay sessions, assemblies and other activities in the community. "We must give another chance to this endeavor. There are some issues and concerns about the autonomy but we can address these," Cuttiyog.
Meanwhile, DILG Provincial Director Anthony Ballug stated that series of orientations will be conducted to all elected officials and other stakeholders in the province clear doubts that people had in mind.
Ballug said a pool of speakers will be invited to explain to the people about the regional autonomy. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
